What Are the Characteristics of a Beach Umbrella?

2025-01-14

People who have been to the beach must be familiar with beach umbrellas. These umbrellas can be seen everywhere on the beach. Visitors can enjoy the sunshine and sea breeze under the umbrella and avoid direct sunlight. Beach umbrellas are similar to other common parasols. They are basically used for sun protection. So what are the characteristics of beach umbrellas?

1. Sun protection

Because beach umbrellas are mainly used on the beach, and the beach is basically on the seaside, the sun is relatively strong at the seaside, so the most important feature is sun protection. The sun protection function of beach umbrellas is relatively strict, and the protection performance of ultraviolet rays is relatively high. Therefore, the material requirements for making beach umbrellas are also relatively high. They must be raw materials with strong ultraviolet protection effects, such as polyester, polyester fiber, etc. This type of material is the only choice for making beach umbrellas because it contains a benzene ring structure that absorbs ultraviolet rays. Generally speaking, polyester cloth, yarn-dyed cloth, and sabron fabrics contain the above materials, so when choosing a beach umbrella, you must also look for the umbrella surface made of this type of fabric.

2. Rainproof

Another feature of beach umbrellas is that they are rainproof. Ordinary parasols only have the function of sun protection, but they are not very effective in rain protection. In addition to being able to protect against the sun, better beach umbrellas also require relatively high rain protection performance. After all, if the rain protection performance is not good and it is often wet by rain, it will be easily damaged. Generally speaking, rain protection mainly relies on adding a hydrophobic film to the fabric to improve the hydrophobic performance. This is equivalent to applying a layer of waterproof film on the fabric, which can divert rainwater and prevent it from remaining on the fabric to cause penetration, thereby achieving the effect of rain protection. Therefore, if you want to consider the effect of rain protection, you have to see whether there is a waterproof coating added to the umbrella material.

3. Windproof

There are often strong winds and waves at the seaside. In addition to withstanding the scorching sun and heavy rain, beach umbrellas must also have a certain wind resistance. In terms of wind resistance, it mainly depends on the support pole of the beach umbrella. A stable base and a solid support pole are necessary conditions for wind resistance.

The materials generally used for the support poles of beach umbrellas are basically aluminum poles or iron poles. These materials are relatively strong and have good stretchability. They can stabilize the umbrella in a windy environment and are not easily deformed. Some beach umbrellas do not have a base, but the support poles are directly inserted into the sand to fix them. Although it saves effort, it lacks stability. If there is no solid base to rely on, it is easy to be blown down in the face of strong winds. Therefore, in terms of windproof effect, try to choose support poles made of aluminum poles or iron poles and styles with bases.
